Chest
on Frame New England circa 1740-1760
|
This early Queen Anne style chest replica could be classified a transitional
chest on frame. Transitional furniture is the mix of elements from the end of an earlier
style with the new elements
of an introduced style. During the William and Mary period there would have been six
turned legs. In this miniature chest on frame the four beautifully executed cabriolet
legs show the delicacy of the Queen Anne
era. The shape of the middle of the skirt during the William and
Mary period usually was a single plain arch.
