Sideboard table Southern Federal Huntboard circa 1789 - 1805

In the late 18th century, during the Federal period, the Sideboard was an important addition to dining-room furnishings. Sideboards were used as service tables and to store fine linens, silver and more. Mahogany was the preferred wood with inlays of holly, maple, satin and other woods. The Sideboards were most popular from 1789 to 1805 when Hepplewhite, Shearer and Sheraton designed these tables. Shearer was the first to introduce the tapered legs. Buffet tables may be accessorized with our fretwork mirror, Apple tea container, Pear tea caddy or Bombay tea caddy or Federal Tea Caddies.
