The characteristics in design of this chest-of-drawers can be attributede to the Goddards and Townsends of Newport, Rhode Island, circa 1760-1780. This block and three-shell chest with scroll carved ogee bracket feet is considered by many to be the Best in form of American furniture from the master craftmen of Newport.
