Queen Anne Highboy

A unique form characteristic of 18th Century America The Queen Anne Highboy or Tall Chest has been described as a cabinetmakers highest achievement. An enormously challenging piece to build, the Highboy incorporates almost every skill of the traditional cabinetmaker. Referred to as Chamber furniture, the Highboy or Tall Chest was an enormously popular piece during the second and third quarters of the eighteenth century. Because of the obvious storage potential, part of the demand was due to the lack of closets in eighteenth century homes.
