Tea tables, in eighteenth century America, were used primarily for the serving of tea to guests, but the smaller tables were also used as candlestands. These tables are also referred to as pie crust tea tables and were placed in the center of a drawing room with a tea service or placed in an upright position against a wall until needed. Pie crust candle stand tables during the Chippendale period, were so called, because of the raised and decoratively carved edge of the round top. American Carved Tilt Top Tea Table
The diameter of the top is 19-¾" with an overall height of 28-½".

This hand finished, reproduction mahogany tea table with its beaded, raised outer rim and scalloped edge is comprised of six plain and six serpentine alternating segments that tilt and turn over an open style birdcage which allows the table top to turn or tilt vertically. The American Carved tilt top Tea Table is a fine example of American craftsmanship. A fluted, carved columnar pillar leads to a compressed ball which is unique to Philadelphia style tripod tea tables. The knees of the cabriolet legs have the typical shell and leaf carving supported by three pad feet.

Can be used as a candlestand, side or end table, serving or display table or plant stand. Looks great as an accent to any room in its vertical position to display the lovely pie crust design. Our table is the perfect size to display your Apple, Pear and Bombay Tea Caddy. Additional photos upon request.
